Unix vs.
NT/Win2000
|
|
| Should
I host on a Unix server or a windows 2000 server? |
|
90% of web hosted
domains are hosted on a Unix server platform.
Unix is the most stable server platform for web servers. |
|
|
| The computer I use
at home is using windows 95/98/ME/XP/2000 or is a Mac. Will
Unix be compatible? or do I need to host my domain on one of
your Windows 2000 servers? |
|
| |
One of the most
common misunderstandings we hear, is that you must have Unix
on your own home computer in order to host your site on a
Unix server. This is simply not true. It does not matter
which operating system you run on your own/home computer,
you can host on either Unix or Windows server platforms. You
will have no limitations either way. Hence, if you are using
Windows 95/98/ME/XP/2000 or even a Mac, you can still choose
to host your domain with us on a Unix server.

|
I use Microsoft FrontPage to
build my web site. Don't I need to host on a Windows 2000
server?
|
| |
No. Microsoft
FrontPage is completely supported on either Unix or Windows
2000 servers. FrontPage server extensions are included Free
on all of our plans.
|
|
|
How
do I know if I need Windows 2000 or not?
|
| |
If you are not
requiring support for one of the following, you more than
likely don't require Windows 2000 hosting.
Windows Media files, Cold Fusion, MS SQL, MS Access
Database, IMAP, ASP, ASP QMail, Visual Basic Scripts, Index
Server, FoxPro Database, as well as several others.
|
|
|
If
you don't require support for the previously mentioned
Applications, we recommend Unix because of:
Reliability
Free/opensource software and scripts
Lower cost
Easy
to use
|
|
|
Bottom line?
Because Unix servers are ultimately less expensive for us to
operate and maintain and offer open source software, we can
offer you lower pricing on a Unix account, with a high
recommendation.
